History
Founded in 1908, Yale University Press (YUP) is the publishing arm of Yale University and one of the oldest university presses in the United States. From modest beginnings as a small editorial office in New Haven, Connecticut, YUP grew into a globally recognised scholarly publisher. Over more than a century it has cultivated a reputation for academic rigor, editorial excellence, and a willingness to explore the frontiers of knowledge.
In its early decades YUP concentrated on the humanities and social sciences, producing seminal works in literature, history, and philosophy. By the mid20th century the press expanded into the natural sciences, medicine, and interdisciplinary studies. The press celebrated milestones such as the first edition of The Oxford Companion to American History and the influential Yale Series of Modern Languages.
