1. Overview of SSC MTS Examination

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the MultiTasking Staff (MTS) exam to recruit candidates for clerical and support positions in various ministries, departments and offices of the Government of India. It is a nontechnical, noncadre post requiring basic literacy, arithmetic and general awareness.

The exam is held in a single session and consists of a written test (objective type) followed by a skill test (if applicable). The written test covers three major subjects:

2.3 Quantitative Aptitude

  • Number Systems divisibility, HCF, LCM, remainder theorem
  • Arithmetic percentages, profit & loss, discount, simple & compound interest, time & work, time & distance, ratio & proportion, averages, mixture & allegation
  • Algebra linear equations, quadratic equations, progressions
  • Data Interpretation tables, charts, graphs
  • Geometry basic shapes, area, volume, perimeter
  • Trigonometry basic ratios, heights and distances
  • Mensuration surface area and volume of solids

Negative marking is usually not applied for the SSC MTS written test. However, candidates must verify the latest notification for any changes.

4. Effective Preparation Tips

Tip: Consistency beats intensity. Dedicate 23 hours daily and revise regularly.
  1. Understand the Syllabus: Use the sections above to make a checklist. Mark topics you are strong in and those that need work.
  2. Create a Study Plan: Allocate 30% time to Reasoning, 35% to Quantitative Aptitude and 35% to General Awareness. Adjust based on personal strengths.
  3. Practice Reasoning Daily: Solve at least 1015 puzzles per day. Use online mock tests to enhance speed.
  4. Strengthen Math Fundamentals: Focus on shortcuts for percentages, profitloss and speedtime problems. Timed practice improves accuracy.
