Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) use P2P principles to stream video more efficiently by allowing users to upload segments of data they have already downloaded to other users. Furthermore, the rise of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency is entirely dependent on P2P protocols, which allow for a distributed and immutable ledger that no single entity can control.

Challenges in P2P Systems

Despite its advantages, P2P computing faces unique hurdles. Security is the most prominent concern, as the decentralized nature of the network makes it difficult to police content or identify malicious actors. Without a central authority, verifying the authenticity of data can be complex. Additionally, performance can fluctuate based on the variable internet speeds and hardware quality of the individual peers, making it less predictable than a dedicated data center infrastructure.
