Michele Robin Forman is a distinguished scholar whose interdisciplinary work bridges psychology, education, and digital learning. With a doctorate in Cognitive Development from Stanford University, she has spent over two decades researching how learners engage with emerging technologies and how those interactions can be optimized for deeper understanding.
Early Life and Education
Born in 1972 in Portland, Oregon, Michele displayed an early fascination with both the arts and sciences. She earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Washington, graduating summa cum laude. During her undergraduate years she volunteered in afterschool programs, sparking a lifelong commitment to equitable education.
Her graduate work at Stanford focused on the interplay between working memory and multimedia instruction. Her dissertation, Cognitive Load Management in Interactive Learning Environments, received the William James Award for outstanding research.
Academic Career
After receiving her PhD, Dr. Forman joined the faculty of the University of Michigans School of Education, where she quickly rose from assistant to full professor. She currently holds the John and Mary Anderson Chair in Learning Sciences.
