Lee University Basketball Team Building Summer Camp 2020

Developing skills, camaraderie, and confidence on and off the court

Overview

The 2020 Lee University Basketball Team Building Summer Camp brought together 120 athletes from high schools across the Southeast for an intensive, threeday experience on Lees beautiful campus in Cleveland, Tennessee. The camp combined skill development drills, competitive scrimmages, leadership workshops, and community service projects to create a holistic environment where players could grow as basketball players and as individuals.

Camp Objectives

  • Skill Enhancement: Provide advanced coaching on shooting, ball handling, defense, and basketball IQ.
  • Team Cohesion: Teach communication strategies and trustbuilding exercises.
  • Leadership Development: Offer workshops on responsibility, goal setting, and conflict resolution.
  • Physical Conditioning: Implement strength, speed, and endurance programs tailored to basketball athletes.
  • Community Engagement: Involve campers in a service project to reinforce the values of generosity and humility.

Daily Schedule

Day 1 Foundations

  • 08:00 09:00 | Checkin and welcome breakfast
  • 09:15 10:45 | Warmup circuits and mobility
  • 11:00 12:30 | Shooting clinic (fundamentals & advanced spots)
  • 12:30 13:30 | Lunch
  • 13:45 15:15 | Leadership workshop: Leading by Example

Day 2 Competition & Communication

  • 08:00 09:00 | Morning jog & dynamic stretching
  • 09:15 11:00 | Defensive principles clinic
  • 11:15 12:30 | Smallgroup film breakdown sessions
  • 12:30 13:30 | Lunch
  • 13:45 15:45 | 3on3 tournament (strategic focus)
  • 16:00 17:30 | Communication drills & trust activities
  • 18:00 20:00 | Guest speaker: Former NBA player shares career insights

Day 3 Service & Celebration

  • 08:00 09:00 | Community service: refurbishing the local youth center
  • 09:30 11:00 | Conditioning circuit and injuryprevention workshop
  • 11:15 12:30 | Final scrimmage AllStar Game
  • 12:30 13:30 | Lunch
  • 13:45 15:00 | Awards ceremony & individual feedback
  • 15:30 16:30 | Closing remarks and photo session

The camp was led by a blend of seasoned Lee University coaches and guest specialists:

  • Coach Marcus Reed Head Coach, Lee University Mens Basketball (10year tenure)
  • Coach Elena Garcia Assistant Coach, expertise in guard development
  • Coach Jonathan JTrain Patel Strength & conditioning specialist
  • Guest Trainer: Former collegiate star Tyler Jameson Shooting mechanics

Highlights & Success Stories

Improved Shooting Percentages: Participants reported an average 12% increase in fieldgoal accuracy after the shooting clinic.

Leadership Growth: Over 80% of campers said the leadership workshops helped them feel more confident taking charge on their highschool teams.

Community Impact: The refurbishing project donated new basketball hoops and paint to the Cleveland Youth Center, benefitting over 300 local kids.

Registration for Future Camps

Due to the overwhelming response to the 2020 camp, Lee University will host the next Basketball Team Building Summer Camp in July 2022. Spots are limited to 150 athletes. Early registration opens on September 1, 2021.
