The Route
The most common road link is via Stuart Highway. Follow these simple steps:
- Head north on Karama Road toward the intersection with Wright Road.
- Turn left onto Wright Road and continue until you reach the Stuart Highway overpass.
- Merge onto Stuart Highway (A1) heading north. The highway becomes the main artery into Darwin.
- After roughly 10km, you will see signs for Charles Darwin University, Darwin CBD, and the Darwin Waterfront. Choose the exit that matches your destination.
The entire drive typically takes 1520minutes, depending on traffic. During peak morning and evening periods, allow an extra 510 minutes.

- Public bus: The 10 and 11 routes run from Karama to Darwin Central. Buses depart every 1530 minutes and the journey takes about 30minutes.
- Bicycle: For the adventurous, a 12km ride along the Stuart Highway bike lane offers a scenic and healthy commute.
