APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm)

Evaluation Scheme & Syllabus Overview

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) offered by AKTU is a fouryear undergraduate degree divided into eight semesters. It is designed to produce competent pharmacists with a solid foundation in pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacy practice, and related healthcare disciplines. The curriculum follows the latest recommendations of the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and aligns with national drug regulatory standards.

Key objectives of the programme include:

  • Developing a thorough understanding of drug design, development, and delivery.
  • Equipping students with analytical, regulatory and clinical skills required in community, hospital and industrial settings.
  • Fostering research aptitude and ethical professional conduct.

Evaluation Scheme

AKTU follows a creditbased continuous assessment system. Each semesters assessment is a blend of theory, practical, and internal evaluation components.

1. Theory Examination (80% of semester marks)

  • Endsemester written exam 70%
  • Periodic quizzes/assignments 10%

2. Practical & Laboratory (15% of semester marks)

  • Weekly lab performance, reports and vivavoce 10%
  • Termend practical exam 5%

3. Internal Assessment (5% of semester marks)

  • Class participation, presentations, and seminars.

For every subject, a minimum of 40% marks is required to pass. If a student fails a theory component but clears the practical, a supplementary (supp) exam is offered within two weeks of result declaration. The supp exam covers only the theory portion.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum passing percentage?

Students must secure at least 40% in each theory and practical component of a subject. Overall semester pass requires a minimum of 40% aggregate.

How many attempts are allowed for a supplementary exam?

Only one supplementary attempt is permitted per subject. Failure in the supp exam leads to a repeat of the entire semester.

Can a student opt for electives from other streams?

Electives are limited to pharmacyrelated options approved by the department. Interdisciplinary electives require prior permission from the academic council.

Is there any provision for credit transfer?

Credit transfer is possible for students moving from another university, provided the courses match in content, credit value, and are authorized by AKTUs Academic Committee.

When does the internship commence?

The eightweek internship begins in the 8th semester, after successful completion of all theory and practical requirements.

For detailed regulations, refer to the latest AKTU Academic Handbook and the Pharmacy Council of India guidelines.
