Professor of Epidemiology and Nutrition, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health Walter Charles Willett was born on April 21, 1937, in Boston, Massachusetts. He earned his B.S. in chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1958 and completed an M.D. at Harvard Medical School in 1962. After a residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, he pursued a fellowship in nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health, where he discovered his lifelong passion for the relationship between diet and disease. Willett joined the faculty of the Harvard School of Public Health in 1971. Over the ensuing decades he has held the Charles W. Mason Professorship of Epidemiology and Nutrition, and he serves as the Chair of the Department of Nutrition.
