Overview
Each spring, Vancouver Community College (VCC) celebrates the accomplishments of its students, faculty, and staff at the annual Award Ceremony. The event recognizes academic excellence, community leadership, and artistic achievement across VCCs seven campuses. This years ceremony took place on April 23, 2024, in the StateoftheArt Ballroom at the Pacific Campus, drawing more than 400 attendees, including families, alumni, local business partners, and members of the broader Vancouver community.
The ceremony is more than a formal acknowledgment; it reflects VCCs commitment to fostering a supportive environment where learners can thrive. Over the past decade, the ceremony has expanded to include new categories such as Sustainability Champion, Digital Innovation, and Indigenous Leadership, echoing the colleges dedication to inclusive and forwardthinking education.
Highlights of the Evening
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Leila Patel, a distinguished researcher in renewable energy, opened the ceremony with a compelling talk on Bridging Classroom Learning with RealWorld Impact. Her presentation emphasized how VCC students are already making contributions to cleantech startups and local sustainability initiatives.
Student Performances: The VCC Jazz Ensemble and the Contemporary Dance troupe provided vibrant interludes, showcasing the talent nurtured within the colleges arts programs.
Community Partnership Awards: Three local businessesEcoWave Solutions, Pacific Tech Labs, and Heritage Builderswere honored for their ongoing mentorship programs, internships, and scholarship contributions.
Live Streaming: To make the ceremony accessible to remote families, VCC streamed the event on its website and YouTube channel, attracting over 1,200 virtual viewers.
