UUP Professional Staff Request for Promotion & Salary Increase

1. Overview

The University of the Philippines (UUP) recognizes that a transparent, meritbased system for promotion and salary adjustments is essential for retaining top talent and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. This page outlines the policy framework, the steps to submit a request, and the criteria used by the Promotion Committee when evaluating professional staff applications.

2. Why a Formal Request Is Needed

Professional staff members who have taken on greater responsibilities, acquired new qualifications, or consistently exceeded performance expectations may be eligible for a promotion and accompanying salary increase. A formal request ensures that:

  • All relevant evidence is collected in a standardized format.
  • The evaluation process remains objective and auditable.
  • Both employee and department have clear expectations regarding timelines.
Key Principle: Promotions are based on demonstrated impact, not tenure alone.

3. Request Process

  1. SelfAssessment Complete the Professional Staff SelfAssessment Form (PDF linked below).
  2. Supervisor Endorsement Your immediate supervisor reviews the selfassessment and adds a performance narrative.
  3. Department Submission The department head forwards the complete packet to the Office of Human Resources (OHR) within 30 days of the employees anniversary date.
  4. Review by Promotion Committee The committee evaluates the packet against the criteria listed in Section4.
  5. Decision & Communication OHR notifies the employee of the outcome within 45 days of submission.

Leadership & Initiative 20% Team coordination, process improvements, mentorship. Letters of commendation, documented improvements, mentorship logs.
