What Is the Tutor Learning Initiative?

The Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI) is a structured, campuswide program that pairs academically strong students with peers who need extra help in specific subjects. By fostering a collaborative environment, TLI enhances understanding, builds confidence, and promotes a culture of shared responsibility for learning.

Founded in 2018 by a coalition of faculty members and student leaders, the initiative has grown from a small studygroup model to a comprehensive tutoring network that now serves over 2,500 students each semester.

How It Works

Participation is simple and free for both tutors and tutees.

• Application: Interested students complete an online form. Tutors are selected based on academic performance, communication skills, and a short interview.
• Matching: An algorithm matches tutors with tutees based on subject need, schedule, and preferred learning style.
• Training: All tutors attend a 2hour workshop covering active listening, feedback techniques, and inclusive teaching practices.
• Sessions: Sessions are held in dedicated learning spaces or virtually via the campus platform. Each session lasts 6090 minutes, with a suggested frequency of once a week.
• Monitoring: Academic mentors review progress reports and provide additional resources when needed.

Getting Started

4. After matching, youll receive an email with your partners contact information and a link to the session calendar.
5. Begin your first tutoring session within two weeks of enrollment.
