The Republic of Korea (SouthKorea) administers its customs duties through the Korea Customs Service (KCS) and the legal framework known as the Tariff Schedule of the Republic of Korea (Korea Customs Tariff, KCT). The schedule is the principal instrument for applying customs duties, import quotas, antidumping measures and preferential rates granted under freetrade agreements (FTAs). The current version of the KCT was last revised in 2023 and is aligned with the World Customs Organizations Harmonized System (HS) 2022 nomenclature. It contains over 12,000 tariff lines covering goods from raw materials to advanced electronics. The KCT follows the internationally recognised HS structure of sixdigit headings, which are further subdivided into national subheadings of eight or ten digits for more precise classification. The schedule is organized into the following chapters: Each heading includes a basic duty rate, a preferential rate (if applicable), and any special notes such as antidumping or safeguard measures. The following table highlights representative rates for major import categories. All rates are expressed as ad valorem percentages unless otherwise noted. All preferential rates are contingent upon proper documentation of origin and compliance with the relevant FTA rules of origin. SouthKorea has signed 63 FTAs covering more than 150 trading partners, the largest network of any nation. These agreements are incorporated into the KCT as separate annexes that list eligible products and the applicable reduced or zero duty rates. Under each FTA, the KCT contains a Preferential Duty Schedule that supersedes the MFN schedule when the importer proves eligibility. For detailed product classification assistance, importers should consult a certified customs broker or the KCS Tariff Inquiry portal.Tariff Schedule of the Republic of Korea
