About the Language Centre

The Language Centre at Tampere University is a dynamic hub for language learning, research, and intercultural exchange. Established to support the universitys internationalisation strategy, the centre offers a wide range of courses, from beginner Finnish to advanced academic language skills. Course Offerings

All courses are taught by qualified, nativespeaker teachers who combine communicative methodology with a clear focus on pronunciation, grammar, and cultural context.

  • Beginner (A1A2) 8week intensive, classroombased, covering basic conversation, essential grammar, and everyday vocabulary.
  • Intermediate (B1B2) 12week modules that develop listening comprehension, reading strategies, and written expression for academic and professional settings.
  • Advanced (C1C2) Specialized courses such as Finnish for Academic Purposes, Business Finnish, and Finnish for Healthcare Professionals.
  • Summer Intensive Programme 4week immersion with daily lessons, cultural excursions, and language cafs.
  • Online Learning Selfpaced modules, live webinars, and virtual conversation clubs for remote students.

Learning Pathways

Students can choose a linear path (A1 A2 B1 ) or select specific modules aligned with personal or professional goals. All pathways lead to nationally recognized certificates, such as the Finnish National Certificate of Language Proficiency (YKI) and the universityissued Finnish for Studies diploma.
