About the Sacramento Area Science Project
The Sacramento Area Science Project (SASP) is a collaborative initiative dedicated to enhancing science education and fostering scientific literacy among students, educators, and the broader community in the Sacramento region. Established in 2005, SASP has grown from a small grassroots effort into a comprehensive science education network serving over 50 schools and reaching thousands of students each year.
Our mission is to provide hands-on, inquiry-based science experiences that ignite curiosity, develop critical thinking skills, and inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators. We believe that science education should be accessible, engaging, and relevant to the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.

Our Programs
Classroom Science Enrichment
Our team of science educators visits classrooms throughout the Sacramento area to deliver hands-on lessons that complement and enhance school curricula. These inquiry-based lessons cover topics from physical science to life sciences and earth sciences, aligned with Next Generation Science Standards. Our mobile science laboratory brings equipment and materials that many schools might not otherwise have access to.
After-School Science Clubs
We operate after-school science clubs at partner schools, providing students with opportunities to explore scientific concepts through experiments, projects, and field trips. These clubs encourage student-led inquiry and foster a community of young scientists who support and learn from each other. Recent club projects have included building solar-powered vehicles, testing local water quality, and creating weather monitoring stations.
Summer Science Camps
Our week-long summer science camps offer immersive experiences where students dive deep into specific scientific fields.
