Professional Development Salary Increment Credit Application

Overview

Many organisations encourage employees to improve their skills through formal training, certification programmes or higher education. To recognise the value of such professional development, companies often provide a salary increment credit that can be applied after the training is successfully completed. This page explains what the Professional Development Salary Increment Credit (PDSIC) is, who can apply, the steps involved, and tips for a successful submission.

Eligibility Criteria

Before preparing an application, verify that you meet the following conditions:

  • Employment status: Must be a fulltime or permanent parttime employee with at least six months of continuous service.
  • Approved programme: The training or qualification must appear on the companys approved professional development list or receive prior written approval from the Learning & Development (L&D) team.
  • Performance benchmark: Employees must have achieved at least a Meets Expectations rating in their most recent performance review.
  • Financial limit: The credit amount is capped at 5% of the employees base salary per fiscal year.
  • Timing: The training must be completed within the current fiscal year to qualify for that years credit.
Note: Temporary staff, contractors, and employees on leave of absence are not eligible for the credit.

Application Process

The application is a threestage workflow: Submission, Review & Verification, and Salary Adjustment.

1. Submission

  1. Log in to the employee portal and navigate to Professional Development Salary Increment Credit.
  2. Complete the online form:
    • Personal details (autopopulated).
    • Training details provider, programme name, start/end dates, and total cost.
    • Outcome certification earned or grade achieved.
  3. Upload the required supporting documents (see the next section).
  4. Click Submit for Review. A confirmation email with a reference number will be sent.

2. Review & Verification

The L&D team, together with HR, will:

  • Validate that the training was preapproved.
  • Confirm the employee satisfied the performance and service requirements.
  • Check that the credit amount does not exceed the annual cap.
  • Verify the authenticity of certificates and receipts.

Typical turnaround time is 1015 business days. You will receive an email indicating either approval or a request for additional information.

3. Salary Adjustment

Once approved, HR will process the increment in the next payroll cycle. The increase appears as a separate Professional Development Credit line item, making it easy to distinguish from regular salary raises.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for multiple programmes in the same year?

Yes, provided the total credit does not exceed the 5% salary cap. Each programme must be submitted and approved separately.

What if my certification is revoked after the credit is awarded?

If the qualification is later invalidated, the credit may be rescinded and the salary adjustment reversed in the following payroll period.

Is the credit taxable?

Yes. The increment is treated as regular earnings and is subject to the same tax deductions as base salary.

Can I receive the credit if I quit before the next payroll?

No. The credit is payable only while you remain an active employee. If you resign before the adjustment is processed, the credit will be forfeited.

Who should I contact if I have questions?

Reach out to the L&D Coordinator at ld@company.com or call the HR Helpdesk (ext.4321).
