Overview
The NSW Health Enrolled Nurse (EN) Scholarships 2022 are a governmentfunded initiative designed to increase the supply of qualified Enrolled Nurses across New South Wales public health services. The programme offers financial assistance, mentorship and guaranteed employment upon successful completion of the training pathway.
Enrolled Nurses provide essential bedside care, support registered nurses, and play a pivotal role in patient safety and recovery. By offering scholarships, NSW Health aims to attract motivated individuals, especially those from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds, to build a resilient and diverse nursing workforce.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a valid humanitarian visa.
- Be aged 18 years or older on the day of application.
- Hold a minimum of a Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (CHSA) or an equivalent qualification.
- Demonstrate genuine interest in a career as an Enrolled Nurse (e.g., relevant work experience, volunteering, or a personal statement).
- Be willing to work in any NSW Health facility where a placement becomes available, including regional and rural locations.
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress throughout the scholarship period.
- Agree to the NSW Healths Code of Conduct and professional standards.
Applicants with a criminal record may still be considered, provided the offence does not impact suitability for a healthcare role.
What the Scholarship Covers
- Tuition Fees: 100% of the tuition for the Enrolled Nurse Diploma (or equivalent) at an approved NSW provider.
- Living Allowance: Up to $25,000 per annum to assist with accommodation, transport and daily expenses.
- Books & Materials: Reimbursement for textbooks, uniforms and required clinical equipment.
- Mentoring: Allocation of a clinical mentor and access to professional development workshops.
- Employment Guarantee: A fulltime or parttime position with NSW Health upon successful completion of the program (subject to workplace availability).
The scholarship is designed to reduce financial barriers, allowing students to focus on their studies and clinical training without the stress of debt.
How to Apply

- Create an Account: Register on the NSW Health Scholarships portal.
- Gather Documents: Prepare the following:
- Proof of citizenship or residency.
- Academic transcripts (minimum CHSA qualification).
- Resume/CV highlighting relevant experience.
- Two referees one academic and one professional.
- Personal statement (max 500 words) describing motivation, career goals and commitment to NSW Health.
- Complete the Online Form: Fill in personal details, eligibility questions, and upload the required documents.
- Submit: Review the application carefully and click Submit. You will receive an automated confirmation email.
- Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a panel interview (inperson or virtual) where they will discuss their statement, suitability and location preferences.
