An adventure through the mysterious heart of the rainforest after dark
As the sun dipped below the horizon, our small group gathered at the edge of the Amazon rainforest, anticipation building with each passing moment. The jungle, already a cathedral of life by day, transforms completely in the darkness. By the early morning hours, the forest seemed to change again. Some sounds diminished while others increased. "The night has phases," Mateo explained. "Early night has different activity patterns than late night."
The temperature dropped further, creating a cool mist near the ground. As we began our return journey, Mateo took a different route that followed a small tributary. Here, we encountered fishing bats swooping over the water, using echolocation to detect ripples made by fish.
