About the National Translation Mission (NTM)

The National Translation Mission, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education, India, is dedicated to making knowledge accessible in the countrys many languages. Established in 2005, NTMs core mandate is to translate highquality academic, scientific and technical literature from English (and other source languages) into Indian languages, thereby fostering inclusive learning and research.

In pursuit of this vision, NTM releases a quarterly newsletter that showcases its ongoing projects, highlights achievements, and invites the scholarly community to participate in the translation ecosystem.

Why a Quarterly Newsletter?

The newsletter serves four principal purposes:

• Information Sharing: Updates on newly launched translation projects, progress reports, and upcoming milestones.
• Community Building: Spotlight stories of translators, editors, and subjectmatter experts who contribute to the mission.
• Capacity Development: Announcements of workshops, webinars, and training modules aimed at enhancing translation skills.

By publishing four times a year, the newsletter maintains a steady flow of communication without overwhelming readers, allowing stakeholders to stay informed and engaged.

All articles are written in clear, accessible English, with translations of the headline and key messages provided in Hindi, Tamil, Bengali and five other regional languages.

How to Contribute

NTM welcomes contributions from translators, academics, technologists, and language enthusiasts. The process is straightforward:

1. Identify a Topic: Choose a subject area aligned with NTMs focusscience, technology, humanities, or social sciences.
2. Prepare a Proposal: Submit an outline (max 500 words) describing the source material, target language(s), and anticipated impact.
3. Peer Review: The editorial board evaluates relevance, feasibility, and resource requirements.
4. Translation & Editing: Once approved, translators work with subjectmatter experts and language editors to ensure accuracy.
5. Feature in the Newsletter: Successful projects receive a dedicated writeup, including QR codes linking to the final translated PDFs.
