About the Newsletter
Mrs. Stoughs Superhero Newsletter is a monthly publication created for elementaryschool students who love adventure, imagination, and learning. Each issue blends classic comicbook excitement with educational content, encouraging readers to explore science, history, and personal growth through the eyes of original superhero characters.
Founded in 2021, the newsletter started as a classroom project in Mrs. Stoughs fourthgrade class. Within a year it grew into a communitywide favorite, reaching over 1,500 students across three school districts.
What Makes It Special?
- Original Heroes: Meet Captain Kindness, The Amazing Equation, and EcoEaglecharacters created to model bravery, curiosity, and responsibility.
- Interactive Challenges: Word puzzles, science experiments, and art prompts that let readers become part of the story.
- RealWorld Connections: Each superhero faces a problem rooted in actual science, history, or social issues, followed by a short FactCheck sidebar.
- Student Spotlight: Readers can submit drawings, short comics, or heroic deeds from their own lives for a chance to be featured.
- Parent & Teacher Resources: Lessonplan ideas and discussion questions are included at the end of each issue.
Sample Issue: The Mystery of the Missing Meteor
In this adventure, Captain Kindness and The Amazing Equation team up to locate a meteor that vanished from the schools science lab. Along the way they discover the power of teamwork, the basics of orbital mechanics, and the importance of honesty.

- FactCheck: Why meteors burn up in the atmosphere and how scientists track them.
