History
Founded in 1954 by the Sisters of St.Carmel, Mount Carmel Convent School began as a modest primary school in a small house on the outskirts of the town of Nandapur. The founding sisters, driven by a desire to provide a valuebased education for girls at a time when formal schooling for women was limited, quickly earned a reputation for academic rigor and moral grounding.
Within a decade the school outgrew its original premises. A new campus was built on a 5acre plot, featuring classrooms, a library, and a modest assembly hall. The 1960s saw the introduction of a secondary section, and the first batch of students sat for the state board examinations in 1968, achieving a 95% pass rate.
During the 1970s and 1980s the school embraced progressive teaching methods, incorporating science laboratories, a computer centre (one of the first in the region), and an emphasis on bilingual instructionEnglish and the regional language. The centennial celebration in 2004 marked 50 years of continuous service, and the school was honored with the Excellence in Education award by the State Education Department.
