Tapping, also known as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), is a powerful tool for releasing negative emotions and reducing stress. The Letting Go Tapping Script is specifically designed to help you release whatever is holding you back - whether it's anxiety, past traumas, limiting beliefs, or any other form of emotional baggage.
Before we dive into the script, let's familiarize ourselves with the tapping points you'll be using throughout this process:
Karate Chop point: The outer edge of your hand, on the side opposite your thumb.
Top of head: The crown of your head.
Eyebrow point: The beginning of your eyebrow, near the bridge of your nose.
Side of eye: The bony orbit at the outer corner of your eye.
Under eye: The bone directly under your eye.
Under nose: The area between your nose and upper lip.
Chin point: The area between your lower lip and chin.
Collarbone point: The junction where your collarbone meets your breastbone.
Underarm: About 4 inches below your armpit on the side of your body.
Before beginning the Letting Go Tapping Script, take a moment to:
Step 1: The Setup
Tap continuously on the Karate Chop point while repeating the following statement three times:
Even though I'm holding onto [emotion/issue], I deeply and completely accept myself.
For example: "Even though I'm holding onto this anxiety about my job, I deeply and completely accept myself."
Step 2: The Sequence
Tap about 5-7 times on each of the following points while repeating the reminder phrase:
Eyebrow: This [emotion/issue] I'm holding onto
Side of eye: These feelings that won't let go
Under eye: This [emotion/issue] that feels stuck
Under nose: It feels so heavy
Chin: This [emotion/issue] that I'm ready to release
Collarbone: I'm tired of carrying this
Underarm: I'm ready to let go of this [emotion/issue]
Top of head: This old [emotion/issue] that no longer serves me
Step 3: The Positive Turn
Now, we'll shift the focus to positive statements as you continue tapping:
Eyebrow: I'm open to the possibility of letting this go
Side of eye: I choose to release this [emotion/issue]
Under eye: I deserve to be free from this
Under nose: Peace and calm are available to me
Chin: I'm releasing this [emotion/issue] from my body and mind
Collarbone: Every day, I feel lighter
Underarm: I'm grateful for the lessons, but ready to let go
Top of head: I choose peace and freedom now
Step 4: The Breath and Release
After completing the sequence:
Take a deep breath in, imagining golden light filling your body
Hold it for a moment
Exhale slowly, visualizing the [emotion/issue] leaving your body
Rate the intensity of the issue again on a 0-10 scale
For issues that persist or seem particularly resistant to release, try these advanced approaches:
The Movie Technique: Imagine a short movie of the traumatic event or situation that created your emotional burden. Tap through the sequence while focusing on each significant scene of the movie, starting from the beginning. This can help your brain reprocess the memory in a less emotional way.
The Tearless Trauma Technique: Rather than diving directly into intense emotions, start by speaking about the issue in the third person ("Even though this person experienced this..."). This creates psychological distance, allowing you to approach the topic gradually without overwhelming emotional response.
The Chasing the Pain Technique: Notice where in your body you feel the emotion. As you tap, follow the sensation if it moves to another part of your body. Continue tapping wherever the emotional discomfort manifests physically.
While the complete script is powerful, you don't always need 15-20 minutes to experience relief. A simplified version can be used:
How long will it take to see results?
Many people experience relief after just one session, though persistent issues may require repeated practice over days or weeks. The key is consistency and genuine engagement with the process.
Can tapping replace professional therapy?
While tapping is a powerful self-help tool, it is not a substitute for professional mental health care when needed. For deep-seated trauma or mental health conditions, consider working with a qualified therapist who may incorporate tapping into a larger treatment plan.
What if I can't identify my emotions?
Many people struggle to name their feelings. You can tap on "this uncomfortable feeling" or even "this confusion about what I'm feeling." The body knows what needs to be released even when the conscious mind doesn't have a label for it.
The standard Letting Go Tapping Script is a foundation, but personalizing it increases its effectiveness. Consider these modifications:
Remember, the goal of the Letting Go Tapping Script is not to eliminate all negative emotions foreverthat would be neither natural nor desirable. The purpose is to release the grip these emotions have on you, reducing their intensity, and giving you the freedom to respond to life's challenges with greater clarity and peace.
