Overview
The LanguageCert Test of English (LTE) is an internationally recognised, modular English language exam designed for learners aged 12years and above. It evaluates the four core language skills reading, writing, listening and speaking and maps them to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) from A1 (beginner) to C2 (proficient). The test can be taken in a traditional paperbased setting, on a computer, or fully online with remote proctoring, giving candidates flexibility to sit the exam wherever they feel most comfortable.
CEFR Levels Covered
LTE offers a separate exam for each CEFR level. This modular approach means you can choose the level that matches your current ability and progress step by step.
A1 Beginner Entry
Basic greetings, personal information, and everyday expressions.
A2 Elementary Entry
Simple tasks such as shopping, describing routine activities, and giving short opinions.
B1 Intermediate Threshold
Understanding main points of clear standard input, dealing with travel, work, and school topics.
B2 UpperIntermediate Vantage

C1 Advanced Effective Operational Proficiency

Test Format
Each LTE level consists of four sections, each scored on a 0100 scale. The overall result is the average of the four component scores.
Reading
- Multiplechoice, matching and true/false tasks.
- Texts range from short notices to academic articles, depending on level.
- Time: 4560minutes.
Listening
- Audio clips include conversations, announcements, lectures and interviews.
- Questions are answered on the computer or paper answer sheet.
- Time: 3045minutes.
Writing
- Tasks vary: fillintheblank letters (A1A2), short essays (B1B2), reports or proposals (C1C2).
- Assessors evaluate structure, grammar, vocabulary range and task achievement.

Speaking

All sections are designed to be independent you may take them on the same day or spread over several days, subject to the test centres policy.
Preparation Tips
Success in LTE depends on familiarising yourself with the format and practising the specific skills required for your target level.
1. Know the level descriptors
Read the official CEFR descriptors for your chosen level. They tell you exactly what you should be able to do in each skill area.
2. Use official practice material
LanguageCert provides free sample papers and downloadable audio tracks. Working through these under timed conditions builds stamina.
3. Focus on weak areas
- If listening feels difficult, watch short videos with English subtitles and gradually remove the subtitles.
- For writing, practice the specific task types (e.g., emails, essays) and ask a teacher to give feedback on structure.
- Speaking confidence improves with mock interviews; record yourself and compare with model answers.
4. Expand vocabulary strategically
Keep a personal word bank for collocations and phrases that frequently appear in your levels topics (travel, education, technology, etc.). Review it regularly.
5. Manage test time
Allocate a fixed amount of minutes per question. If a task feels stuck, move on and return later if time permits.

LTE results are accepted by universities, employers and governmental agencies in more than 60 countries. Many European institutions list LTE alongside IELTS, TOEFL and Cambridge exams as an approved proof of English proficiency.
