Containment Strategies

On land, topography is the most significant factor in spill movement. Spilled liquids follow the path of least resistance, often flowing toward low-lying areas or drainage systems. Responders employ several containment techniques:

The final phase of a land-based spill response is site remediation. After the bulk material is removed, the impacted area must be restored to its pre-spill condition. This process often involves:
