The Korea University Korean Language Center (KULC) offers a wellstructured ShortTerm Intensive Program designed for learners who want to make rapid progress in Korean during a limited stay in Seoul. The January2023 session ran from 2January to 31January and attracted students from more than 30 countries, ranging from highschool graduates to university students and working professionals.
Program Overview
The intensive course is a fulltime, 160hour curriculum (approximately 40hours per week). Classes are conducted Monday to Friday, with two 2hour lessons per day, plus optional conversation labs and cultural activities. The curriculum balances four core language skillslistening, speaking, reading, and writingwhile placing a strong emphasis on practical communication for everyday life and academic settings.

Admission Requirements
- Completed application form (available on the KULC website).
- Copy of passport (valid for at least six months).
- Proof of payment of tuition fees (KRW2,200,000 for the full month).
- For nonnative English speakers, a recent TOEFL/IELTS score or a Korean proficiency test is not mandatory, but a basic level of English is expected to follow instructions.
Tuition & Fees
January2023 tuition covered all classroom instruction, course materials, and access to the language lab. Additional costs (optional) included:
- Accommodation: Oncampus dormitory (KRW500,000) or private homestay (approx. KRW700,000).
- Field trips & cultural activities: KRW150,000.
- Medical insurance (mandatory for all foreign students): KRW70,000.
Accommodation Options
Korea University offers two main housing choices for shortterm students:
- OnCampus Dormitory Fourperson rooms with shared bathroom, free WiFi, and a common study area. Meals can be purchased in the campus cafeteria.
- Homestay Program Host families provide private rooms, three meals a day, and daily interaction in Korean. This option is especially helpful for learners who want a deeper cultural immersion.
