Jyoti Shishu Vihar

Lighting the Path for Young Minds

About Jyoti Shishu Vihar

Founded in 2003, Jyoti Shishu Vihar is a private preschool and kindergarten located in the heart of Patna, Bihar. The name Jyoti means light and Shishu means child; together they convey the institutions mission to illuminate the early years of a childs life with knowledge, love and a sense of wonder.

Jyoti Shishu Vihar campus

Over the past two decades the school has grown from a modest classroom of 20 children to a vibrant community of more than 500 students, spread across three agespecific sections: PlaySchool (23years), PreNursery (34years) and Kindergarten (45years). The institution enjoys the confidence of parents across the city and is known for its balanced blend of academic rigor and holistic development.

Educational Philosophy

Jyoti Shishu Vihar adheres to a childcentered pedagogy that draws on the principles of the Reggio Emilia approach, Montessori methods and the Indian educational values of respect, discipline and service. Three pillars define its philosophy:

  • Learning through Play: Structured play activities are used to develop language, numeracy and social skills.
  • Experiential Discovery: Children are encouraged to explore the natural world, conduct simple experiments and document observations.
  • Character Building: Moral stories, community service projects and mindfulness exercises nurture empathy and responsibility.

Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire. William Butler Yeats

Teachers at Jyoti Shishu Vihar act as facilitators rather than lecturers, providing a supportive environment where curiosity is celebrated and mistakes are viewed as learning opportunities.

Community Impact

Beyond its walls, Jyoti Shishu Vihar actively participates in community service. Each year the school organises a CleanOurNeighbourhood drive, where children learn the value of stewardship while collecting waste and planting saplings. The school also collaborates with local NGOs to provide free earlylearning kits to underprivileged children.

Alumni of the institution, now in primary and secondary schools across the country, often return to share experiences, reinforcing a sense of belonging and continuity.

My sons confidence grew the moment he started attending Jyoti. The caring teachers made learning an adventure. Ritu Sharma, Parent
