What is Schema Therapy?
Schema Therapy integrates cognitivebehavioral, attachment, psychodynamic, and experiential techniques to identify and modify lifelong patternscalled schemasthat underlie chronic emotional difficulties. Developed by Dr. Jeffrey Young, it is especially effective for personality disorders, complex trauma, and relational problems.

Program Structure
Foundations (Month 12)
Introduction to schema theory, assessment tools, and the therapeutic alliance. Includes 10 hours of live webinars and a selfstudy module.
Advanced Techniques (Month 34)
Learning schema modes, experiential techniques, and schemafocused interventions for complex cases. Features interactive case workshops.
Supervised Practice (Month 56)
Participants submit recorded therapy sessions for feedback from certified supervisors. Minimum of 12 supervised hours required.
Certification Exam (Month 7)
Written multiplechoice exam (100 items) and a practical OR (Observed Roleplay) assessment. Successful candidates receive the International Schema Therapist Certificate.
Eligibility & Prerequisites
The program is intended for mentalhealth professionals who hold a relevant graduate degree (e.g., Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Psychiatry) and have at least two years of clinical experience. Applicants must:
- Provide a current professional license or registration.
- Submit a CV and a brief statement of interest.
- Agree to abide by the ISST Code of Ethics.
International students are welcome; all materials are provided in English.
Learning Outcomes
On completion, participants will be able to:
- Conduct comprehensive schema assessments using the Young Schema Questionnaire and schema mode inventories.
- Formulate case conceptualizations that integrate schemas, modes, and developmental history.
- Apply cognitive, experiential, and behavioral strategies to modify maladaptive schemas.
- Manage therapeutic challenges such as schema resistance, dropout, and ruptures in the alliance.
- Demonstrate competence in at least three schemafocused treatment protocols (e.g., for borderline personality disorder, chronic depression, or relational trauma).

Cost & Scholarships
Standard tuition: $3,500 USD (includes all live sessions, recordings, assessment fees, and the certification certificate). A 10% earlybird discount is offered for registrations completed before the next intake date.
We provide a limited number of needbased scholarships (up to 20% tuition reduction) for clinicians serving underresourced populations. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
