  • Krdanta (Participial Forms): Understanding how to form and use primary derivatives, including Sattri, Sanac, and Tavyat/Aniyar suffixes.
  • Taddhita (Secondary Derivatives): Exploring nominal derivations that indicate possession, relationship, or origin.
  • Advanced Sandhi: Deepening proficiency in internal and external Sandhi rules, specifically focusing on complex euphonic combinations found in classical prose.
  • Samasa (Compound Formation): A comprehensive study of the four primary types of compoundsAvyayibhava, Tatpurusa, Bahuvrihi, and Dvandvaand their application in literary texts.

Module 2: Syntax and Prose Composition

Students will transition from isolated sentences to structured paragraphs, learning to analyze the logical flow of Sanskrit discourse.

  • Karaka Vibhakti: A detailed study of the six case relations (Karaka) and their specific governing rules in complex sentence structures.
  • Vakya-rachana: Advanced translation exercises focusing on maintaining proper word order (Anvaya) and stylistic balance.
  • Active vs. Passive Voice: Mastery of Kartari-prayoga, Karmani-prayoga, and Bhave-prayoga, and understanding when to employ each for stylistic effect.

Module 3: Introduction to Classical Literature

The reading list focuses on accessibility while maintaining academic rigor. The goal is to build reading fluency through authentic texts.

  • Selections from the Hitopadesha: Utilizing simple moral fables to practice narrative prose analysis.
  • The Bhagavad Gita (Chapters 1-6): Introduction to philosophical Sanskrit; analyzing the structure of verses (Shlokas) and the specific vocabulary used in didactic literature.
