Preparing for the IELTS Academic module can feel overwhelming, but the most effective way to boost your confidence and your band score is by working with highquality practice tests. A wellstructured practice regimen mirrors the real exam, familiarises you with the format, and highlights the skills you still need to improve.
Four recordings each 30seconds longer than the real sections accompanied by a printable answer sheet. The audio is recorded by native speakers with a range of accents (British, Australian, NorthAmerican, and NewZealand) to simulate the real test environment.
Three passages taken from university textbooks, journals and newspapers. The passages are calibrated to the same difficulty level as the official IELTS, and include multiplechoice, matching, true/false/not given, and shortanswer questions.
Two tasks:
Sample answers with bandspecific criteria (Task Response, Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range) are provided for selfassessment.
Three parts reflecting the official test format, with video prompts and model answers. An accompanying checklist helps you evaluate fluency, pronunciation, lexical range and grammatical accuracy.
Set aside 2hours30minutes for Listening and Reading, plus 2hours30minutes for Writing and Speaking. Turn off all distractions, use the official timer, and complete each section in the prescribed order.
After finishing, compare your responses with the answer key. For Writing, read the bandspecific feedback and note recurring errors (e.g., article misuse, paragraphing). For Speaking, record yourself and listen for hesitation or mispronounced words.
Chart the types of questions you miss most often. If you lose points on matching headings in Reading, allocate extra practice to that skill. If your Listening score drops during Section3, practise extracting detail from longer monologues.
Use the gaps you identified to focus on specific exercises: vocabulary lists for academic terms, grammar drills for complex sentences, or timed notetaking for Listening.
Not all practice tests are created equal. Look for the following quality markers:
Free options such as the British Councils sample questions or IELTSOfficial YouTube tutorials are valuable for familiarisation but often lack the fulllength, timed experience.
