Introduction
I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, commonly known as PTU, is a staterun university located in Jalandhar, Punjab, India. Established in 1997 and renamed in 2015 to honor former Indian Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral, the university serves as a statutory body responsible for the promotion of technical, management, and professional education across the state.
Historical Background
The university began its journey as Punjab Technical University (PTU) under the Punjab Technical University Act, 1997. Its primary aim was to decentralise technical education and bring uniformity in curricula, examinations and quality standards. In 2015, following a resolution by the Punjab Legislative Assembly, the institution was renamed I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University to commemorate the legacy of the eminent statesman and academic.

The Jalandhar campus occupies over 130 acres and features modern classrooms, wellequipped laboratories, a central library with more than 100,000 volumes, hostels for men and women, sports complexes, and a dedicated entrepreneurship cell. Additionally, the university provides elearning platforms, a digital repository and WiFi connectivity across the campus.
Research & Innovation
Research is a cornerstone of PTUs activities. The university has established Centers of Excellence in areas such as renewable energy, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and wireless communications. Admission Process
Admissions to undergraduate programmes are primarily based on the statelevel JEE (Punjab) scores, while postgraduate admissions consider GATE/GMAT scores or university entrance examinations. The university follows a transparent counseling process conducted through the PTU online portal.
International students can apply through the Direct Admission of Foreign Students (DAFS) scheme, which includes English proficiency requirements.
