Origins and Historical Background
The Gujarat Vernacular Society (GVS) was founded on 26 May 1848 in the historic city of Ahmedabad. It began as a small gathering of educated Gujarati men who felt an urgent need to preserve and promote the Gujarati language in the face of increasing British influence and the dominance of English education.
