Duration & Timing

Location

The office is situated in the bustling Cultural Hub of New Delhi, near Connaught Place. The central location makes it easy to attend literary events across the city.

Working Hours

Fulltime interns work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00am 5:30pm, with a 1hour lunch break. A few evenings may be required for event support.

Stipend and Benefits

  • Monthly stipend of INR15,00020,000 (taxexempt as a cultural internship).

Key Responsibilities

Interns will be part of a small, dynamic team. Duties may vary weektoweek, but typically include:

  • Research & Market Analysis: Compile data on Indian readership trends, report on bestselling German titles, and identify potential translation opportunities.
  • Translation Support: Assist senior translators with proofreading, terminology checks, and preparation of bilingual promotional material.
  • Event Coordination: Help organise author talks, panel discussions, and workshops; manage invitations, logistics, and onsite assistance.
  • Social Media & Communications: Draft posts for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn; design simple graphics using Canva; monitor engagement metrics.
  • Editorial Assistance: Prepare press releases, write blog entries on German literature, and update the GBO website with new content.
  • Networking: Attend meetings with Indian publishing houses, literary agents, and cultural institutions; take minutes and follow up on action items.

All tasks are designed to give a holistic view of the publishing ecosystem while allowing the intern to specialize in areas of personal interest.

Who Should Apply?

The ideal candidate is a motivated student or recent graduate who meets the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Bachelors/Masters program in English, German, Comparative Literature, Translation Studies, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in English (C2 level) and a good working knowledge of German (minimum B2, preferably C1).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Passion for books, cultural exchange and the publishing industry.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, with a proactive attitude.
  • Basic digital skills MS Office, Google Workspace, socialmedia platforms, and an eye for design tools (Canva, Adobe Spark).

Previous internship or volunteer experience in a cultural institution, publishing house, or literary festival is advantageous but not mandatory.
