Four Year Integrated B.A. B.Ed. Syllabus

A comprehensive overview of the curriculum structure, course distribution, and pedagogical framework for the integrated teacher education program.

Program Introduction

The Four Year Integrated Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education (B.A. B.Ed.) is a professional teacher training program designed to produce competent, qualified, and humane teachers for secondary and senior secondary schools. Unlike the traditional B.Ed. pursued after graduation, this integrated approach blends academic knowledge of Arts subjects with professional pedagogical training right from the first year.

The syllabus is structured according to the guidelines established by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), emphasizing a cohesive blend of Core Courses, Elective Courses, and School Internship. The curriculum is divided into eight semesters over four years, requiring students to specialize in two teaching subjects alongside education theory.

Assessment and Evaluation

The evaluation system for the B.A. B.Ed. integrated course typically follows the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE). Assessment is conducted through a mix of internal and external examinations.

Internal assessment includes unit tests, assignments, mid-term examinations, seminar presentations, and participation in co-curricular activities. External examinations are generally held at the end of each semester. The program requires students to maintain a minimum attendance of 75% to be eligible to sit for examinations, ensuring regular engagement.

Practical examinations, particularly for the pedagogy and skill-based courses, involve mock lessons, lesson plan critiques, and practical demonstrations. The final year internship is evaluated by the school principal and a university-appointed mentor.

Career Scope

Graduates of the four-year integrated B.A. B.Ed. program are qualified to teach in secondary schools (grades 9 to 12) and higher secondary schools (grades 11 to 12) for their subject specializations. The primary career path is as a PGT (Post Graduate Teacher) or TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) in government and private schools.

Beyond formal school teaching, graduates can pursue careers in counseling, educational content writing, curriculum development for publishing houses, and administration in educational NGOs. The degree also serves as a foundation for higher studies such as Master of Education (M.Ed.), M.A. in Education, or MPhil in Education.
