Foundation Course for Education of Children with Disabilities (FCECD)

Overview

The Foundation Course for Education of Children with Disabilities (FCECD) is a comprehensive introductory programme designed for teachers, paraprofessionals, and caregivereducators who wish to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to create inclusive learning environments. The course blends theory with handson practice, covering a wide range of disabilitiescognitive, physical, sensory, and emotionaland the evidencebased strategies that support successful learning outcomes for each.

Delivered through a blended format of online modules, interactive webinars, and onsite practicum sessions, FCECD equips participants to:

  • Identify the diverse needs of children with disabilities.
  • Plan and adapt curriculum to be accessible for all learners.
  • Implement instructional techniques that promote participation and independence.
  • Collaborate effectively with families, specialists, and community resources.

Eligibility & Admission

The FCECD programme welcomes candidates who meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Qualified teachers (preservice or inservice) seeking specialization in inclusive education.
  • Special education assistants, paraprofessionals, or teaching aides.
  • School counsellors, psychologists, speechlanguage therapists, or occupational therapists.
  • Parents, guardians, or community volunteers with a strong interest in supporting children with disabilities.

Applicants must hold a minimum of a highschool diploma or equivalent, submit a brief statement of intent (200300 words), and provide two professional references. No prior experience with specialneeds education is required, though it is welcomed.

Application deadlines are held twice a year January15for the Spring cohort and July15for the Autumn cohort.
