Formative Assessment

Summative Assessment

Curriculum

Pedagogy

Scaffolding

A teaching technique that involves providing temporary support or guidance to help students achieve a task they could not yet complete independently. As the student gains proficiency, the support is gradually removed.

STEM / STEAM

An educational approach that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, (Arts), and Mathematics. It focuses on hands-on learning and real-world problem solving.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

A framework for teaching that aims to improve and optimize teaching and learning for all people based on scientific insights into how humans learn. It focuses on providing multiple means of representation, action, and engagement.

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)

The process through which children and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions, achieve goals, and feel and show empathy for others.

Standardized Testing

Exams administered and scored in a consistent manner, often used to assess student performance against state or national benchmarks and to hold schools accountable for student growth.
