Overview

The ErasmusMundus Joint Master Degrees (EMJMD) are prestigious, integrated master programmes developed by a consortium of highereducation institutions from at least three different European countries. The programme is funded by the European Union and aims to promote the quality of higher education through scholarships, academic cooperation, and intercultural exchange.

Each year, the European Commission awards a limited number of full scholarships to outstanding students from all over the world. The scholarship covers tuition, a monthly living allowance, travel costs, and insurance. It is one of the most competitive and wellrecognised funding sources for masterlevel study in Europe.

Eligibility

To be considered for an ErasmusMundus scholarship, you must meet the following basic criteria:

• Hold a bachelors degree (or equivalent) that gives you eligibility to enroll in a master programme in the host country.
• Be a nonEU/EEA national. Citizens of EU member states are generally not eligible for the scholarship, though they may enrol in the programme without funding.
• Meet the language requirements of the specific joint master (typically English, French, Spanish, or a combination).
• Demonstrate a strong academic record (usually a minimum GPA of 2.5/4.0 or equivalent).
• Show genuine motivation for the chosen field and the ability to thrive in an international, multicultural environment.

Application Process

1. Choose a Joint Master Programme

Visit the ErasmusPlus website or the official EMJMD portal to explore available programmes. Each consortium provides a detailed brochure with course structure, partner universities, language requirements, and application deadlines.

2. Prepare Required Documents

Typical documents include:

1. Completed online application form (host universitys portal).
2. Copy of passport (identification).
3. Academic transcripts and degree certificates.
4. Proof of language proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL, DELF, etc.).
5. Motivation letter (500800 words) addressing why you chose the programme, your career goals, and how you will contribute to the consortium.
6. Two academic references (professors or supervisors).
7. Curriculum Vitae (chronological format, with academic and work experience).
8. Research proposal (if required by the specific programme).

3. Submit to the Coordinator University

Each consortium has a coordinating university that receives all applications. Follow the exact submission instructions and respect the deadline (usually between early January and late March for autumn intake).

4. Selection and Notification

Evaluation is carried out by a panel of academics from the partner institutions. Criteria include academic merit, relevance of the motivation letter, and alignment with the programmes objectives. Successful candidates are notified by early June.

5. Visa and Arrival

Once awarded, the scholarship letter serves as the basis for obtaining a longstay student visa. The host universitys international office typically assists with the visa process and provides prearrival guidance.

• Tailor each motivation letter. Mention specific modules, faculty members, or research facilities that attract you to that consortium.
