England Biodiversity Strategy Climate Change Adaptation

Overview

The England Biodiversity Strategy (EBS) was first published in 2011 and refreshed in 2021 to provide a unified framework for protecting and enhancing the nations wildlife, habitats, and ecosystem services. Climate change is recognised as the most pervasive driver of biodiversity loss, and the 20212025 Strategy embeds climatechange adaptation throughout its objectives.

Adaptation in this context means reducing the vulnerability of species and ecosystems to climaterelated stressors while increasing their capacity to cope with, or recover from, those changes. It requires coordinated action across government, landowners, NGOs, businesses and local communities.
