Ecosystem Services and Climate Change
Our natural world provides invaluable services that sustain human life and economic activity, often referred to as "ecosystem services." These services include everything from the air we breathe and the water we drink to pollination of crops, flood regulation, and recreational opportunities. Yet, climate change is now threatening the very ecosystems that provide these essential services.
Understanding the interplay between ecosystem services and climate change has become one of the most critical challenges of our time. This relationship works in both directions: climate change threatens the continued provision of ecosystem services, while healthy ecosystems can help mitigate climate change impacts through carbon sequestration and other mechanisms.
