Early Life
Dr. Sukhwinder Kaur Bath was born on 12 March 1975 in Amritsar, Punjab, India. Growing up in a family that valued education, she exhibited a keen curiosity for science from a young age. Her parents, both teachers, nurtured her interest in biology by taking her on field trips to local farms and encouraging her participation in school science fairs.

Professional Career
After completing her postdoctoral work, Dr. Bath returned to India as an Assistant Professor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. She quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a full Professor in 2012. In 2016 she was appointed Director of the Centre for Translational Immunology at AIIMS, a role she continues to hold.
In addition to her academic duties, Dr. Bath serves on several national advisory panels for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, focusing on vaccine policy and emerging infectious diseases.
Research Highlights
Dr. Baths research portfolio spans over two decades and includes pioneering work in the following areas:
- Innate Immunity and Pattern Recognition Receptors Discovered a novel Tolllike receptor variant that modulates response to bacterial lipopolysaccharide.
- Vaccine Development Led a collaborative project that produced a lowcost, heatstable recombinant hepatitisB vaccine now used in rural health programs.
- Autoimmune Disease Mechanisms Identified key cytokine pathways involved in systemic lupus erythematosus, leading to targeted therapy trials.
- One Health Approach Integrated human, animal, and environmental health data to predict zoonotic spillover events, influencing policy during the 2020 COVID19 pandemic.
