Why a Breakfast Superhero?
Students need energy, focus, and a positive start to the day. A fun, schoolwide contest that asks children to imagine a Breakfast Superhero can spark creativity, teach nutrition basics, and build community spirit. By turning breakfast into a heroic adventure, we make healthy eating exciting and memorable.
Contest Objectives
- Promote healthy breakfast habits: Emphasise the importance of protein, whole grains, fruit, and dairy.
- Encourage artistic expression: Provide a platform for drawing, writing, or digital design.
- Strengthen teamwork: Allow individual or group entries that foster collaboration.
- Celebrate local culture: Let participants incorporate regional foods or traditions.
- Reward positive behavior: Recognise students who consistently eat breakfast at school.
Who Can Participate?
All students from kindergarten through 8th grade are eligible. Teachers may submit entries on behalf of their class, and families are welcome to join as a supportive hometeam. Entries are limited to one per student or group, depending on the chosen category.
Contest Categories
Participants can choose the format that best matches their strengths:
- Illustration: Handdrawn or digitally created superhero image.
- Storytelling: Short story (150300 words) describing the heros powers and breakfast mission.
- Multimedia: 30second video or animation.
- Combined: A illustrated hero with an accompanying tagline or slogan.
Submission Guidelines
- All entries must be original work created for this contest.
- Illustrations should be in JPG, PNG, or PDF format, 300dpi minimum.
- Stories must be typed, using 12pt Times New Roman, and submitted as a PDF.
- Videos must be no longer than 30seconds, uploaded to a private YouTube link or submitted via Google Drive.
- Include the students name, grade, and a brief description of the heros breakfast powers.
- Deadline for all submissions: Friday, September 20, 2026.
All entries will be screened for appropriate content. Any depiction of violence, profanity, or copyrighted characters will be disqualified.
Judging Criteria
The panelcomprising a nutritionist, an art teacher, a school administrator, and a student representativewill score each entry on a 100point scale:
- Nutrition Message (30 points): How clearly does the hero promote a balanced breakfast?
- Creativity & Originality (25 points): Fresh ideas, unique visual style, or imaginative storyline.
- Artistic Quality (20 points): Use of color, composition, readability (for stories), or production value (for videos).
- Relevance to School Community (15 points): Incorporation of local foods or cultural elements.
- Presentation (10 points): Neatness, adherence to guidelines, and overall polish.
Prizes & Recognition
Winners will be celebrated at the September30 school assembly and featured on the school website, newsletter, and local media.
- Grand Prize (Best Overall): $150 gift card for school supplies, a personalized superhero cape for the winner, and a special Breakfast Champion badge.
- Category Winners (Illustration, Story, Multimedia, Combined): $75 gift cards and a display of their work in the hallway.
- Classroom Heroes: Every class that achieves a collective participation rate of 80% receives a Breakfast Boost party with fruit smoothies and granola bars.

A: Each student may submit one entry per category. Multiple categories are allowed.

A: The story or multimedia options are perfect for nonartists. Collaboration with a classmate who can draw is also encouraged.
Q: Are ingredients from the school lunch program allowed?
A: Yes! We encourage participants to incorporate foods that are actually served in the schools breakfast menu.

A: Winners will receive an email announcement and will be invited to the assembly on September30.
