What is Continuous Quality Improvement?

Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) is a systematic, datadriven approach to enhancing the efficiency, effectiveness, and safety of processes, products, or services. Unlike oneoff quality checks, CQI emphasizes an ongoing cycle of planning, acting, studying, and refining often represented by the PDCA (PlanDoCheckAct) or Deming Cycle.

At its heart, CQI seeks to:

Methodologies Commonly Used in CQI

PlanDoStudyAct (PDCA)

  • Plan: Define the problem, set objectives, and design an intervention.

Lean
