A DSMB is an independent group of experts that monitors data from a clinical trial to ensure safety. If the board finds that the treatment is harmful or not effective, the trial can be stopped early.

Furthermore, regulatory agencies such as the FDA conduct periodic inspections of trial sites and data to ensure compliance with regulations. These layers of oversight are designed to minimize risk and ensure that the scientific integrity of the trial is maintained throughout the process.
