The Gowning Sequence

Cleanroom gowning follows a strict "top-to-bottom" approach. By dressing from the head down, personnel ensure that they do not disturb garments already in place. While protocols vary by cleanroom classification (e.g., ISO Class 5 vs. ISO Class 8), the general procedure involves:

1. Head Cover: Put on the bouffant or hood, ensuring all hair is tucked completely inside. No strands should be visible.

Ongoing Maintenance

If a cleanroom worker exits the cleanroom for a break or to use the restroom, they must fully de-gown and perform the entire gowning procedure again upon re-entry. Gowns should be treated as single-use items or laundered by certified cleanroom facilities to ensure they maintain their filtration capabilities and low-linting properties.
