  2. Selective Reseeding: Introduce highquality grasses such as Festuca valesiaca and legumes like Medicago falcata on overgrazed sites to boost CP and yield.
  3. Optimal Cutting Time: Harvest hay at 55% DM moisture (approximately early July in the lowlands) to maximize CP while retaining adequate fermentable carbohydrates.
  4. Conservation of Native Diversity: Preserve patches of native forbrich communities for pollinator support and as a genetic reservoir for future breeding.
  5. Soil Fertility Monitoring: Apply modest rates (3040kgNha) of organic amendment in heavily used lowland areas to sustain productivity without degrading soil structure.

7. SocioEconomic Context

Livestock accounts for more than 30% of household income in the Chuy Region. Seasonal shortages of highquality forage drive many producers to purchase imported hay, increasing production costs. Improving onfarm hay yield and quality can reduce this dependency, enhance herd health and contribute to food security.
