Welcome to Bioscience Biotechnology Research Communications (BBRC) - a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to advancing knowledge in the fields of bioscience and biotechnology. These guidelines provide comprehensive information for authors preparing manuscripts for submission to our journal. Please carefully read through the following requirements to ensure your submission meets our standards and to facilitate a smooth review process.

Scope of the Journal

BBRC welcomes submissions that contribute to the advancement of bioscience and biotechnology. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

Types of Manuscripts

BBRC accepts the following types of submissions:

Research Articles

Full-length articles reporting original research findings. These should include comprehensive methodology, results, and discussion sections. Manuscripts should not exceed 8,000 words (excluding references, tables, and figures) and should contain no more than 8 figures/tables.

Reviews

Critical evaluations of specific topics or fields of study. Reviews should provide a comprehensive analysis of the current state of knowledge, identify gaps, and suggest future directions. Manuscripts should not exceed 10,000 words (excluding references, tables, and figures) and should contain no more than 10 figures/tables.

Short Communications

Concise reports of significant preliminary findings or observations that require rapid publication. Manuscripts should not exceed 2,500 words (excluding references, tables, and figures) and should contain no more than 3 figures/tables.

Mini-Reviews

Focused overviews of emerging areas or specific aspects of established fields. Manuscripts should not exceed 4,000 words (excluding references, tables, and figures) and should contain no more than 5 figures/tables.

Opinion Articles

Expert commentary on trending topics, controversial issues, or emerging technologies in bioscience and biotechnology. Manuscripts should not exceed 1,500 words (excluding references) and may include 1-2 figures/tables.

Letters to the Editor

Responses to previously published articles or comments on relevant scientific issues. Letters should not exceed 800 words, may include 1 figure, and should have no more than 5 references.

Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

General Formatting

• All manuscripts must be prepared in English (US or UK spelling consistently applied).
• Submit manuscripts in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format.
• Use Times New Roman font, size 12, with 1.5 line spacing.
• Maintain 1-inch margins on all sides.
• Number all pages consecutively.
• Keep language technical and precise; avoid jargon where possible.
• Use clear headings to delineate manuscript sections.

Title Page

• Provide a concise, informative title that reflects the manuscript's content.
• Include all authors' full names, academic degrees, and institutional affiliations.
• Indicate the corresponding author's name, email address, and phone number.
• Provide a short running title (not exceeding 50 characters).
• List 4-6 keywords for indexing purposes.

Abstract

• The abstract should not exceed 250 words.
• For research articles: Structure with Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusion paragraphs.
• For other manuscript types: Provide a concise summary of the main points.
• Avoid abbreviations and references in the abstract.

Main Text

Tables

• Number tables consecutively in the order of their citation in the text.
• Provide concise descriptive titles for each table.
• Include footnotes to explain abbreviations or other table content.
• Ensure tables are presented in the text where they should appear, not at the end of the manuscript.
• Prepare tables in Word table format; do not use tabs to create tables.
• Do not submit tables as images unless absolutely necessary.

Figures

• Number figures consecutively in the order of their citation in the text.
• Provide comprehensive legends for each figure.
• Submit figures as high-resolution (minimum 300 dpi) TIFF, EPS, or JPEG files.
• Ensure figures are sized appropriately for journal publication.
• Use symbols, letters, or numbers to identify figure parts; clearly explain these in the legend.
• Obtain permission for previously published figures, where required.

References

• Cite references in the text using the author-date system (e.g., "Smith and Jones (2020)" or "(Smith and Jones, 2020)").
• List references alphabetically by first author's surname.
• Follow the Vancouver style for reference formatting:

• Include DOIs where available.
• Ensure all references cited in the text appear in the reference list and vice versa.
• Limit citations to the most relevant and timely sources; review authors are expected to provide comprehensive references.

Units and Symbols

• Use International System of Units (SI) for measurements.
• Follow standard abbreviations for units (e.g., kg, g, mg, g, L, mL, L).
• Define all non-standard abbreviations at first mention.
• Use appropriate chemical symbols and nomenclature.
• For gene and protein names, follow standard nomenclature for the relevant organism.

Submission Process

Online Submission

All manuscripts must be submitted through our online submission system at https://www.jsbber.com/submit. First-time users need to register for an account before submitting.

Submission Requirements

• Prepare all required documents before initiating the submission process:
• Cover letter (saved as a separate file)
• Title page
• Main manuscript document
• Figure files (separate from text document)
• Table files (may be included in text document)
• Supplementary materials (if applicable)
• Complete all required fields in the submission form accurately.
• Upload files according to the system's specifications.
• Review the submission thoroughly before clicking "Submit."

Cover Letter

Submit a brief cover letter that:

• States the title of the manuscript
• Identifies the corresponding author
• Explains the significance of the work
• Confirms that the manuscript has not been published elsewhere and is not under consideration by another journal
• Discloses any potential conflicts of interest
• Lists suggested reviewers (optional but recommended)

Peer Review Process

BBRC employs a rigorous peer review process to ensure the scientific quality and validity of published articles. The process follows these steps:

1. Initial Editorial Assessment: The Editor-in-Chief or Associate Editors conduct an initial review to assess the manuscript's relevance to the journal's scope and basic scientific quality.
2. Double-Blind Peer Review: Manuscripts passing initial assessment are sent to at least two independent experts in the field who assess the scientific quality, methodology, and significance of the work.
3. Editorial Decision: Based on reviewers' recommendations, the Editor will make one of the following decisions:
   • Accept for publication
   • Accept with minor revisions
   • Request major revision
   • Reject
4. Author Response: Authors should respond to reviewer comments thoroughly and revise the manuscript accordingly. Revised manuscripts should be returned within the specified timeframe.
5. Final Decision: The Editor reviews the revised manuscript and author responses to make a final decision.

The typical time from submission to first decision is 4-6 weeks, though this may vary depending on reviewer availability and manuscript complexity.

Publication Process

Publication Charges

Bioscience Biotechnology Research Communications is an open-access journal that requires publication fees to cover costs. Accepted manuscripts incur a publication fee of $1,500 USD. This fee includes:

• Final proof checking
• Online publication with DOI assignment
• Permanent archiving
• Inclusion in all relevant indexing services

Proofs

Authors of accepted manuscripts will receive page proofs by email. These proofs must be carefully checked and corrections returned within 48 hours. Only typographical errors should be corrected at this stage; significant changes to content are not permitted.

E-Publication

Upon completion of the proofing process, articles are published online ahead of print with a DOI. Articles are compiled into issues quarterly.

Copyright and Licensing

• BBRC operates under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
• Authors retain copyright of their work while granting the journal the right to first publication.
• Published articles may be freely shared, adapted, and used with appropriate attribution.
• Authors must complete a copyright agreement form upon acceptance of their manuscript.

Ethics and Policies

Research Ethics

• All research involving human subjects must have been conducted according to the principles expressed in the Declaration of Helsinki.
• Studies involving animals must follow institutional and national guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals.
• Manuscripts reporting human or animal studies must include a statement confirming that ethical approval was obtained.
• Informed consent must be obtained for studies involving human participants.

Plagiarism

BBRC has zero tolerance for plagiarism. All submissions are screened using plagiarism detection software. Authors must ensure their work is original and properly cite all sources. Text recycling (self-plagiarism) is also prohibited without proper citation.

Authorship

• Authorship should be limited to those who have made substantial contributions to conception, design, data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation.
• All authors must approve the final version of the manuscript and agree to its submission.
• Contributors who do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged in the acknowledgments section.
• The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all appropriate co-authors are included and that all co-authors have approved the final version of the paper.

Conflicts of Interest

All authors must disclose any financial or non-financial interests that could be perceived to influence the research or its interpretation. This information should be included in the cover letter and in a Conflicts of Interest statement at the end of the manuscript.

Data Availability

Authors are encouraged to make raw data, processed data, and software code accessible to readers whenever possible. Data should be deposited in appropriate public repositories and included in the manuscript as supplementary material when repositories are not available.

Corrections and Retractions

BBRC follows COPE guidelines for handling corrections and retractions. If significant errors are identified in a published article, the journal will publish a correction. In cases of serious misconduct or unrecoverable errors, the article may be retracted.
