Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Ordinances and Course Structure

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) program is a professional teacher education program designed to prepare prospective teachers to provide quality education at various levels. The program aims to develop competent, committed, and creative teachers who can meet the evolving challenges in the educational landscape.

The B.Ed. program combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, enabling graduates to understand educational processes, apply appropriate teaching strategies, and address the diverse learning needs of students.

Program Ordinances

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for reserved categories) from a recognized university.
  • Candidates appear for an entrance examination conducted by the university or state education authority.
  • Admission is based on the candidate's performance in the entrance examination, academic record, and any other criteria specified by the university.

Program Duration

The B.Ed. program is a two-year full-time course divided into four semesters. Each semester spans approximately 16-18 weeks of teaching, including practical work and examinations.

Attendance Requirements

Candidates must maintain a minimum of 75% attendance in each course to be eligible to appear for the semester examinations. In cases of medical emergencies or other genuine reasons, the Vice-Chancellor may condone the shortage in attendance up to a maximum of 10%.

Examination and Evaluation

  • Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) is followed throughout the program.
  • Each course carries 100 marks, with 40 marks for internal assessment and 60 marks for the semester-end examination.
  • For practical courses, internal assessment carries 60 marks and external examination carries 40 marks.
  • Candidates must secure a minimum of 36% marks in each component separately and 40% in aggregate to pass.

Degree Requirements

To be eligible for the award of the B.Ed. degree, a candidate must:

  1. Complete all prescribed courses within the maximum duration allowed (typically 4 years from the date of admission).
  2. Secure a minimum of 40% marks in each course.
  3. Successfully complete all practical activities, school internship, and other program requirements.
  4. Maintain good conduct and discipline throughout the program.

School Internship

The School Internship spans the entire final semester and provides students with extended classroom experience. Under this, students:

Grading System

The B.Ed. program follows a relative grading system as detailed below:

  • CGPA 6.0 and above: Second Division
