AfN UK Undergraduate Curriculum in Nutrition for Medical Doctors

Programme Overview

The Association for Nutrition (AfN) in the United Kingdom has developed a dedicated undergraduate curriculum that equips medical doctors with the scientific, clinical and publichealth skills required to integrate nutrition into everyday practice. Designed to complement the standard medical degree, the curriculum can be delivered as a standalone yearlong module, as an integrated pathway within a sixyear MBBS program, or as an intensive summer school for postgraduate doctors.

Key principles of the curriculum are:

  • Evidencebased nutrition science aligned with UK dietary guidelines.
  • Clinical translation, focusing on prevention, diagnosis and management of nutritionrelated disease.
  • Interprofessional collaboration with dietitians, nurses and publichealth professionals.
  • Development of communication skills for patientcentred nutritional counseling.
