About Yoga and Ayurveda

Yoga and Ayurveda are sister sciences that originated in ancient India thousands of years ago. While they have distinct methodologies and approaches, they share philosophical foundations and when practiced together, they create a powerful synergy for holistic wellness.

What is Yoga?

Yoga is a comprehensive system for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Developed over 5,000 years ago, it encompasses a wide range of practices including physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), meditation, ethical principles, and philosophical teachings. The word "yoga" comes from the Sanskrit root "yuj," which means to yoke or unite, reflecting yoga's aim to unite individual consciousness with universal consciousness.

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda, which translates to "the science of life," is one of the world's oldest holistic healing systems. Developed in India more than 3,000 years ago, it is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Ayurveda provides guidelines on daily and seasonal routines, diet, behavior, and the proper use of our senses, all personalized according to an individual's unique constitution (dosha).

The Integration of Both Sciences

When practiced together, Yoga and Ayurveda create a comprehensive approach to wellness. Ayurveda provides the framework for understanding your unique constitution and creating a lifestyle that supports balance, while Yoga offers practices to implement and enhance that understanding. This integration addresses the whole person physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual making it particularly relevant in today's fragmented approach to health.
